Pushed Out by Penthouses: The Gentrification of Downtown Brooklyn

Forms of Life has a great interview with filmmaker Kelly Anderson here

Anderson is the director of My Brooklyn, an excellent documentary about gentrification in Brooklyn and the fight by community groups to defend their communities¬† (there’s a trailer on the interview website). Anderson worked with a number of grassroots organizations, and continues to do so post-release of the film in 2012. There are a lot of documentaries about gentrification and displacement (well, maybe not a lot, but …) but this is the only recent one I know of that community groups are using as part of their organizing. Many Right to the City alliance groups have been organizing screenings in their communities as a way to educate and agitate. If you haven’t seen the film yet, try to find a way to get it screened near you. Info is available on the film’s website, http://www.mybrooklynmovie.com/
